Saracen Stamps was formed in 2009. It was founded as a consequence of acquisition by the well-known approvals dealer Michael G Read acquiring a local stamp fair dealer.
As a consequence, both business benefited from a large infusion of fresh stock. Both firms have access to each others stock and their combined buying power.
Saracen Stamps is run by Nick Read. Nick made up approval books as a lad to supplement his pocket money. After leaving school he joined the New Issue dealer, James Davis. At the time his father, Michael G Read, had to concentrate in his career in industry which gave Nick the opportunity to join the business on a full time basis. Until then, it was purely part-time. As a consequence Nick, with his father's help,had an excellent grounding in all aspects of the business.
He is 49 years of age and upon acquisition of Saracen Stamps five years ago, now has full control of the management and running of his own business. Today, Saracen Stamps holds one of the largest stamp inventories in the UK: over 1 million stamps from over 130 countries.
